Search for the Becca Beacon during weekly Summer trail challenge in the Shuswap

The Shuswap, British Columbia – There are more good things underfoot out on Shuswap Trails this summer. Following up on the success of last year’s weekly summer trail challenge, this year’s Shuswap Trail Alliance summer student, Rebecca Howes, has reactivated another round of the weekly prize-filled outdoor motivational challenge.

“I am challenging everyone and their friends and family to hike once a week because I believe that hiking is a great way to stay healthy, get outdoors, experience the beauty of the Shuswap and spend some quality time with friends and family,” says Rebecca. “I am going to complete every hiking challenge I propose. Not only that, but I’m going to tell you when I’m going out and if you can locate me (Rebecca) the Becca Beacon on the trail and get a picture with me, you just doubled your entries for that week! Think about that family of four, now they have 48 entry chances!”

A new hike will be posted to www.shuswaptrails.com, Facebook and Twitter every Wednesday. Participants have one week to complete the hike and submit an entry via email for a chance to win the Grand Prize. A Shuswap Trail Alliance board member will select the Prize winners from the draw August 17, 2014, the weekend of the 22nd Annual Roots & Blues festival. (Be sure to stop by the Shuswap Tourism tent!)

An entry consists of a photo or video and short summary about your time hiking sent to contest@shuswaptrails.com. Every individual who completes the hike is eligible to enter the contest and entries are not limited by email addresses, but by person and content of the entry. All entries submitted must contain a different photo or video and story.

Rebecca is enthusiastic about the new trail challenge. “If a family of four goes for the hike, takes four photos and shares the story of their day from the perspective of each family member – that’s four entries! With six weeks of challenge hikes that’s 24 entries just for one family!” says the impassioned trail champion. Sounds like some good odds right? It gets better!

“Because I don’t think that’s motivation enough to get hiking to win one of our Grand Prizes, I’m also giving you the chance to submit an entry for every Routes & Blues hike you attend in August,” adds Rebecca. “With a total of six Routes & Blues hikes, six regular weekly hikes, and our little game of locate, that’s 18 entry chances per individual and 72 entry chances for that family of four!”

The Prizes include two Guaranteed Tickets to the Shuswap Trail Alliance’s February Auction Fundraiser - quickly becoming the biggest annual party in Salmon Arm with tickets getting harder and harder to obtain each year! Two $25 gift cards to Moose Mulligans in Sicamous. Two Canyon Tour vouchers for Treetop Flyers in Chase. And a Movie Pass for two to the Starlight Drive-In. “We are so grateful to all of our partners for their support promoting the incredible trail system we’ve grown here in the Shuswap,” says Rebecca.
