A communication tower and exceptional viewpoint of Sxwetsméllp (Salmon Arm Bay), Kle7sce?n? (Mt. Ida), Salmon River Valley, and beyond. A trail runs along the cliffs for additional viewpoints, then turns back through the forest to the FSR, making an approx. 1 km loop. Take extreme caution on the bluffs trail; cliff edges are loose, and this is a rough, unmaintained trail. For a longer excursion, park at the bottom and walk or ride approx. 11 km up the FSR.
15 km west of Salmon Arm on Hwy 1 (or 18 km east from Sorrento), turn east onto Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Rd. Follow this road for approx. 6.5 km and, at the base of a slide that comes nearly to the road, turn left onto Bastion Mountain FSR. Set your odometer to 0 km. At approx. 5 km turn left, leaving the route to Reinecker Creek. Stay on the best traveled road, until approx. 10.5 km where there is a spur road on the left with a red gate. If you have a high clearance 4WD vehicle you can take the spur road on the left the last 500 m right to the communication tower and lookout. Otherwise, continue on the main FSR another 200 m and park off the left side of the FSR where there is a wide spot. From here, you can take the bluffs trail to the lookout or walk the FSR.
