The Shuswap, British Columbia – It has been said trails are only as good as people know about them, use them, and care for them. On Thursday, July 25th, the Shuswap Trail Alliance is taking a pause in its busy summer schedule to say thank you to all the individuals, organizations, and partners who have done just that to make the Shuswap Trail Alliance such a vital point of community collaboration over the past 8 years.
Mark calendars for Thursday evening, July 25 to drop in to Haney Heritage Village & Museum in Salmon Arm between 5:00 and 9:00pm for a casual evening of good company, light snacks and entertainment. A formal thank you presentation will take place in the amphitheater at 7:00pm, to be followed by cake cutting. Entertainment will be provided by the SAS Jazz Catz (formerly the SAS Jazz Combo) from 6:30-8:00 pm.
“There’s absolutely no charge,” says event coordinator, Kate Hiscock, Summer Trail Assistant with the Shuswap Trail Alliance. “This is about thanking everyone. We want you to drop in as you please, relax, enjoy a little music, eat cake, and stroll a trail.” A photo presentation from many of the trail projects over the last 8 years will also be on display.
The Shuswap Trail Alliance will take a special opportunity at 7 pm to acknowledge the support of its Milestone Partners, the over 200 local businesses throughout the Shuswap who continue to support the Shuswap Trail Alliance each year through the annual February trail party in Salmon Arm, and the hundreds of individuals and volunteers from around the Shuswap who are tirelessly making our communities healthier places to live.
Milestone achievements since 2006 include completion of over 90 specific greenway projects since 2006, the creation of 7 new trail systems throughout the region, construction of over 75,000 metres of brand new trail, care for 100’s of kilometres of existing trails, the creation and posting of 100s of trail signs and 1000s of blazes, and the launch of the Shuswap Trail Stewards program including the trialreport hotline.
July 25th visitors are encouraged to allow time to check out the upgraded Haney Nature Trails during the evening, which showcase one of the very partnerships being celebrated. The City of Salmon Arm, the Shuswap Trail Alliance, R.J.Haney Village and Musuem, the Job Creation Partnership program, a grant through the Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union, Rotary, and individual volunteers teamed up to completely upgrade the entire parks nature trail system in 2011.
