Shuswap Regional Trails Strategy & Shuswap Trails Roundtable Update

Regional partners throughout the Shuswap have been working hard to develop the first ever multi-user (motorized and non-motorized) trail strategy for the region that includes appropriate acknowledgement of Secwepemc Nation territory, accountable protocols for planning and approvals, a focus on ecology and access management priorities, and a commitment to work together. After 1000s of hours of work by hundreds of leaders, the strategy is live. The result is a renewed commitment to work together on management priorities throughout the Shuswap and the creation of the Shuswap Trails Roundtable formally launched in December 2016. It's a milestone for the region setting a new direction for how we live, move, and relate with each other and the land.

The Shuswap Trails Roundtable meets annually in late November/early December, and a Working Group of representative leadership meets quarterly. To confirm dates and submit agenda items please contact the Shuswap Trail Alliance at 250-832-0102 or email info@shuswaptrails.com.

Shuswap Regional Trails Strategy Working Group:

a representative leadership group meets quarterly throughout the year to implement the Shuswap Regional Trails Strategy at an operational level, with direction from the Roundtable, to assist trails groups with trail authorization, as a resource, and to help review, clarify, and provide input to trails authorization requests from local, first nations, and provincial governments (NOTE: the Roundtable and Working Group do not supersede established decision making authority, but act as a resource during pre-authorization consultation and planning.)
